About Shijiang Academy
Hidden within the verdant embrace of Anning's Shijiang village, a mere 40 kilometers from the bustling city of Kunming, lies the elusive Shijiang Academy. This sanctuary of learning is a treasure waiting to be discovered, nestled behind a solitary stone porch that stands guard by a stream, a beacon for those in the know.
As you step through the porch, the academy reveals itself in all its elegance, a striking yellow edifice that instantly captivates. The academy's roots trace back to a Taoist temple, which was on the brink of ruin before Mr. Wu, the academy's founder, breathed new life into it and established Shijiang Academy.
The academy's mission is to be a beacon for traditional Chinese culture. It offers a diverse range of courses tailored to different age groups and interests, from studies of ancient Chinese civilization to Chinese zither lessons, meditation and yoga, and even farming experiences. The academy also serves tea and vegetarian meals, and offers charmingly quaint guest houses for those seeking a truly immersive experience.
Even if the academy's courses don't pique your interest, you can simply unwind on the expansive wooden terrace, letting the gentle breeze soothe you as you gaze upon the jade waters.
Please note that outside of open days, appointments are necessary for the academy's courses and activities. So, if you're yearning for a taste of traditional Chinese culture or simply a tranquil escape from the city, Shijiang Academy awaits.
